Stronger Organizations are built one thoughtful question at a time

Much Ado About M2 is a weekly reflection on the operational realities shaping home health and hospice organizations. Each edition follows a simple rhythm—Observation. Truth. Takeaway.—encouraging leaders to pause, think differently, and discover the lessons hidden within everyday operation

8/3/26

 Observation
I was thinking this week about the leaders I've admired most over the past 25 years.
None of them had all the answers.
But every one of them asked remarkable questions.

Truth
I've learned that leadership isn't about having every answer.
It's about creating space for the right questions.
Questions like:
What are we seeing?
What might we be missing?
Where have we already succeeded, and what can we learn from it?
I've found that those conversations almost always lead somewhere more valuable than assuming we already know why a metric changed.

Takeaway
The next time you're reviewing a dashboard, resist the urge to ask,
"Why did this metric change?"
Instead ask,
"What question haven't we asked yet?"
Sometimes the right question is worth more than a hundred reports.

7/27/26

 Observation
Healthcare leaders spend countless hours reviewing dashboards, scorecards, and financial reports.
Quality metrics.
VBP scores.
Hospitalization rates.
Revenue trends.
These reports are important—but they're only evidence of what has already happened.

Truth
Dashboards don't create results.
Processes do.
Every metric reflects hundreds of operational decisions that occurred days, weeks, or even months before the report was generated.
By the time the numbers change, the work that produced them is already complete.
Organizations that consistently outperform their peers don't spend more time studying reports.
They spend more time strengthening the systems that create those reports.

Takeaway
At M2, we believe the goal isn't simply to improve a score.
The goal is to improve the operational processes that determine the score in the first place.
That's what Defensibility Before Crisis means.
Don't just monitor performance, design it.

7/19/26

 Observation
This week I found myself thinking about something that has quietly changed in healthcare leadership
Executives have more dashboards than ever!
More reports
More benchmarks
More data.

Truth
The challenge isn’t a lack of information.
It’s knowing which information deserves your attention first.
Leadership isn’t measured by how much you know
It’s measured by where you choose to focus

Takeaway
The greatest advantage often isn’t more data.
It’s seeing what others overlook.

Welcome to Much Ado about M2.
Every Monday, I will share one observation, one truth and one practical takeway for Home Health and Hospice leaders navigating today’s challenging healthcare landscape.
